Alternates, Backups and One Giant Beacon...

Hey everybody!

As we near the close of June, I thought I'd give you a few pages of alternates!

As some of you might know (and as I'm learning with every issue,) things can change on the fly.  Issue #1 included a great backup feature with the 4-page history of Korovan Muspin and throughout the production of issue #2 we set out to replicate that same idea. 22 pages of Bigfoot and a 4-page backup.  Well, as I stated above, changes were afoot and with a printer switch we were now down a couple of pages.  So, instead of the 22 + 4, we opted for 24 pages of story.

But that was AFTER Andy had already completed the backup feature.

I was always of the mind that we would finish the colors and include the 4-page sequence in the trade, but in this weekend of alternates... I think the time is now.

Without further ado, the History of the Great Beacon.

Bigfoot... The Primer!

Hey everybody,

I've always considered myself a huge "Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe" and "Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe" kind of guy.  I loved the profiles, the locations and even the random weapons installments.  Growing up, they were my go-to guides on all things Marvel and DC.  Recently on Twitter, when someone asked what my most cherished comic as a kid was, I instantly said my complete run of OHOTMU.

So, needless to say, I was more than a little excited when Jorge Alvarez contacted me regarding some info he was gathering for Comicvine's wiki on our Bigfoot comic book, Bigfoot - Sword of the Earthman.

After a few emails back and forth, Jorge gathered issue breakdowns, character profiles, random bits of artwork and an epic poem or two and put together a damned fine looking "Who's Who (and What's What) of the Bigfoot Universe.

There are a few things I wasn't prepared for when I started this Bigfoot journey and having a wiki of the various issues was one of them.  There's a certain childlike glee that has me thinking, "This is your universe, you started this." And to see it play out like this, I can't tell you how excited that makes me feel.  And what's even cooler?  It will only grow from here!

So, without further ado...

The Weekend of Alternates!

Here is an alternate cover to issue #2.  Ultimately, the decision was made to showcase the beacon firing, so this one unfortunately took a backseat.

Maybe down the road this one will resurface for a con-exclusive or a second printing.

Have a great weekend,

Best of Bigfoot... Issue 3's Greatest Moment!

Hey everybody,

It's that time again!  A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks concerning Bigfoot.  First off, Bigfoot and I had a stellar showing at the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con!  Whether you're a fan or a creator, this show is a must.  We caught it in its first year, so it will only get bigger!  Highly recommended.

We also met some great retailers and have some things in the works, so we'll keep you posted on those updates!

Anyway, on with the greatest moment of issue 3!

As you know, I've been posting what I think are the greatest moments of the previous issues and I have to say Issue #3 has my favorite.  What I think is particularly awesome is that it's my favorite sequence not because it's some great action piece or some enormous splash page, but rather it's the emotion behind it.

Or more specifically, it's the subtle emotions we see from both Bigfoot and Bagworm.

Okay, this panel isn't the most subtle, but it conveys Bagworm's anger perfectly.  Prior to this moment, all we knew of Bagworm is he's constantly talking about money and his desire to make his fortune.  Moments earlier, he actually had his future in his hands as he reveled in the treasures of Olympus Mons...

Until Bigfoot "saves him."

And it's in this moment that we see Bigfoot in an entirely different light.  Prior to this page, we never really knew what Bigfoot was thinking.  We didn't even really know if he understood what was going on.  He was more reactive than anything.  We knew Bagworm wanted to steal the Heart of the Sun, but  we didn't know what Bigfoot really wanted.

Until now...

In one page, everything changes.

We now know Bigfoot isn't just a "dumb animal."

He understands.

And that's why I think this entire sequence is great.  Bigfoot isn't just a passive observer, he's an active participant... He "gets" what's happening.

And Bagworm realizes this as well.

As a result, things go downhill fast.  And they're only going to get worse.

Until next time...

p.s. With three issues down, that can only mean we're ready for some teases of what's to come!

Cheers!
