Alternates, Backups and One Giant Beacon...

Hey everybody!

As we near the close of June, I thought I'd give you a few pages of alternates!

As some of you might know (and as I'm learning with every issue,) things can change on the fly.  Issue #1 included a great backup feature with the 4-page history of Korovan Muspin and throughout the production of issue #2 we set out to replicate that same idea. 22 pages of Bigfoot and a 4-page backup.  Well, as I stated above, changes were afoot and with a printer switch we were now down a couple of pages.  So, instead of the 22 + 4, we opted for 24 pages of story.

But that was AFTER Andy had already completed the backup feature.

I was always of the mind that we would finish the colors and include the 4-page sequence in the trade, but in this weekend of alternates... I think the time is now.

Without further ado, the History of the Great Beacon.

Bigfoot... The Primer!

Hey everybody,

I've always considered myself a huge "Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe" and "Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe" kind of guy.  I loved the profiles, the locations and even the random weapons installments.  Growing up, they were my go-to guides on all things Marvel and DC.  Recently on Twitter, when someone asked what my most cherished comic as a kid was, I instantly said my complete run of OHOTMU.

So, needless to say, I was more than a little excited when Jorge Alvarez contacted me regarding some info he was gathering for Comicvine's wiki on our Bigfoot comic book, Bigfoot - Sword of the Earthman.

After a few emails back and forth, Jorge gathered issue breakdowns, character profiles, random bits of artwork and an epic poem or two and put together a damned fine looking "Who's Who (and What's What) of the Bigfoot Universe.

There are a few things I wasn't prepared for when I started this Bigfoot journey and having a wiki of the various issues was one of them.  There's a certain childlike glee that has me thinking, "This is your universe, you started this." And to see it play out like this, I can't tell you how excited that makes me feel.  And what's even cooler?  It will only grow from here!

So, without further ado...

The Weekend of Alternates!

Bigfoot Sword of the Earthman issue 2 alternate cover bigfoot comic book graphic novel barbarian

Here is an alternate cover to issue #2.  Ultimately, the decision was made to showcase the beacon firing, so this one unfortunately took a backseat.

Maybe down the road this one will resurface for a con-exclusive or a second printing.

Have a great weekend,

Best of Bigfoot... Issue 3's Greatest Moment!

Hey everybody,

It's that time again!  A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks concerning Bigfoot.  First off, Bigfoot and I had a stellar showing at the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con!  Whether you're a fan or a creator, this show is a must.  We caught it in its first year, so it will only get bigger!  Highly recommended.

We also met some great retailers and have some things in the works, so we'll keep you posted on those updates!

Anyway, on with the greatest moment of issue 3!

As you know, I've been posting what I think are the greatest moments of the previous issues and I have to say Issue #3 has my favorite.  What I think is particularly awesome is that it's my favorite sequence not because it's some great action piece or some enormous splash page, but rather it's the emotion behind it.

Or more specifically, it's the subtle emotions we see from both Bigfoot and Bagworm.

Okay, this panel isn't the most subtle, but it conveys Bagworm's anger perfectly.  Prior to this moment, all we knew of Bagworm is he's constantly talking about money and his desire to make his fortune.  Moments earlier, he actually had his future in his hands as he reveled in the treasures of Olympus Mons...

Until Bigfoot "saves him."

And it's in this moment that we see Bigfoot in an entirely different light.  Prior to this page, we never really knew what Bigfoot was thinking.  We didn't even really know if he understood what was going on.  He was more reactive than anything.  We knew Bagworm wanted to steal the Heart of the Sun, but  we didn't know what Bigfoot really wanted.

Until now...

In one page, everything changes.

We now know Bigfoot isn't just a "dumb animal."

He understands.

And that's why I think this entire sequence is great.  Bigfoot isn't just a passive observer, he's an active participant... He "gets" what's happening.

And Bagworm realizes this as well.

As a result, things go downhill fast.  And they're only going to get worse.

Until next time...

p.s. With three issues down, that can only mean we're ready for some teases of what's to come!

Cheers!

Star Wars, Star Trek... and Buckaroo Banzai!

So... have you ever wondered what Josh sounds like?

Wonder no more!

The Fanboy Scoop - Week in Review Podcast is HERE!

I won't lie. As my first podcast experience, I was a little nervous going into this one.  But rest assured, the Fanboy Comics gang put on a great show (and made me look good!)  In this episode, I let 'em know what I'm excited about, enjoy some talk on Game of Thrones, learn what love is regarding YA lit and get into some great debate on the merits of good vs. bad science in sci-fi!

And I suppose you could say I also alienated the entire Star Wars fanbase...

"As if a million voices cried out... shut your hole, Henaman!"

Well, at least I did the Blue Blaze Irregulars proud.

Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think. I had a blast.

Week of Awesome Continues

It's Thursday... time for some more awesome.

This time we're talking about the defining moment of issue #2.

In this one, it's all about Bagworm.

As you may recall from issue #1, Bagworm was seen as kind of an opportunistic sleazeball.  In issue #2, he proves it.

After a devastating attack by a horde of moth-vampires, Captain Radu attempts to rally his remaining soldiers for one last attack on the hordes' hive.  Predictably, after seeing their brothers die horribly, no one volunteers.

No one, except...

That's right. Bagworm the... Brave?

Hardly.

It seems Bagworm has his eye on a jewel called, "The Heart of the Sun" and the only way to retrieve said jewel is to sneak into the hive.

What follows next is a bit of dialogue that perfectly sums up Bagworm's motivations that will carry him through the next couple of issues.

"I've read tales of stealing baubles from the breasts of princesses. And committed to the mindscroll stories of pilfering the seeds of the Holy Fruit from the Gardens of Shan. But never has anyone proposed to steal the Heart of the Sun, a gem lost to the scrolls of time and memory. Stealth and cunning were a prerequisite to become a member of the scribe caste.  So I have no doubt I can sneak us in... Provided we have a distraction."

And as Bagworm predicted, he got his distraction.

Willing to sacrifice a group of soldiers for his own gain?  Yep, that's our Castor Bagworm.

And of course, things don't go as planned.

A skim-ship carrying Bigfoot, Bagworm and a group of vengeful soldiers barreling into a moth-vampire trap?  Now THAT is a cool moment.

Next up in our Bigfoot comic book tour... Issue #3!

Have a good one,

B.A.M. is back! And Bigfoot's taking names!

Welcome back, everybody!

I don't know how many of you frequent our Facebook page, but a few days ago I posted a brief blurb on last year's series of posts for the month of June (aka Bigfoot Awareness Month!)  Since we're in the comic book biz, and for the love of continuity, we're doing it again!

June... is ... Bigfoot Awareness Month!

And what better way to start than to give a rundown of what I consider the defining moments of the past three issues!

Boom.

bigfoot sword earthman page 18 barbarian comic book graphic novel
Stinkin' bugs...
A berserk Bigfoot going ballistic on a swarm of deadly ant creatures... what's not to love?

The opening description on the scripted page reads: "Bigfoot kicks ass."  So naturally, Andy and Tom knocked it out of the park.

As much as I dote on the iconic look of a scarred and battle-weary Bigfoot on page 2, the image of our hero absolutely thrashing his way out of the swarm on page 18 sets the tone of where we'll ultimately take the book.  This isn't Harry and the Hendersons.  Amidst the underlying situational humor involved in the adventures of Bigfoot and his alien sidekick, Bagworm, this is a deadly serious world.

And page 19 continues the spectacle...

Punch, kick, body slam!
So yeah, this entire sequence sets the tone of our comic.

Up next... Josh's defining moment of issue #2!

Happy Bigfoot Awareness Month!
